A good news for customers and car enthusiasts is on air as BMW after the successful launch of 1 Series is now planning to come up with the 3 Series GT model. This would be a larger and more spacious car as compared to the existing 3 Series. Here, the main aim of the luxury car maker is to entice customers with the space of a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) and performance of a sedan. Notably, the current vehicles under 3 Series offer a superb driving experience with its top-notch engines, space, BMW-trademark dynamic handling and ultra comfort levels. The upcoming BMW 3 Series GT essentially exhibits all these characteristics and alongside will also offer more space to get that extra edge on comfort lines.

This proposed car is bigger than other vehicles of the BMW 3 Series. As a matter of fact, the auto major is expected to have added an extra 200 mm to length, 19 mm to width and 79 mm to height. Evidently, the final product will emerge with noticeably more space to give that extra comfort for passengers and flexibility to carry ample luggage. The most important thing is an addition of 110 mm to the already existing wheelbase that will translate into more legroom in the rear portion of the vehicle. With increased height, the headroom will also increase. As per the available information, GT’s tailgate can also be opened electrically for additional convenience. The rear seats will supposedly come with a decent split ratio and one would also be able to fold down rear seats for increasing the boot space to whooping 1600 litres.

Furthermore, the vehicle is expected to get flexible seat backs at the rear and as such, passengers would be able to adjust its angle either to get a laid back seating position or make 33 litres of additional boot space. Interiors of this upcoming vehicle are expected to be the same as the standard models of 3 Series. Exteriors are expected to be revamped in order to lift the style quotient of this sedan.

Incidentally, due to repeated hike in petrol prices, a drift towards diesel vehicles can be seen among customers and car enthusiasts of the country. Taking this as base think-point, BMW is expected to come up with only a diesel version. BMW, as claimed by reports, believes that customers buying this new luxury car may opt for a higher-capacity engine. Notably, 3 Series range that is available in India does not come with a straight six-cylinder in its line-up and selling upcoming GT with a 3.0-litre diesel engine may see some positives from the performance oriented buyers.

Sources close to the development process have revealed that the auto maker is expected to launch this new car model at the 2014 Auto Expo. The anticipated price of this sedan is between Rs. 45 lakh and Rs. 50 lakh. By a number of industry experts, this sedan is being seen as a 3 Series vehicle that offers space, comfort and practicality, which is inherited by the 5 Series.
