There is no secret that BMW is working on a compact sedan – the BMW 1-Series - that will rival the Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz CLA. According to reports, the 1-Series sedan will go on sale in China sometime in Q3-Q4, 2016. Though, the company hasn’t yet confirmed the unveiling or launch details of the saloon.

An automotive publication has rendered the upcoming 1-Series sedan that suggests the car, based on the front-wheel-drive UKL platform, will be the first BMW sedan to feature the FWD system. It will be shorter than the BMW 3-Series with a length of 4.6 meters. The saloon measures 2.03m in width and 1.42m in height, and sports a wheelbase of 2.81m. The car might take its design inspiration from the 1-Series hatchback and 2-Series Active Tourer.

From inside, the saloon will look identical to the 2-Series Active Tourer. It might feature dashboard with a design running towards the centre console and a free-standing iDrive infotainment display. Features like a larger infotainment display with navigation plus and a Head-Up Display will be available only on the top-end model. Powering the BMW 1-Series will be a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that also does duty on the 2-Series.

This engine delivers a maximum power of 136bhp and 220Nm of torque. The top-end variant might get a 231bhp, 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine. For the Indian market, BMW might consider a 2.0-liter diesel engine that develops a maximum power output of 150bhp.
