After working the classic front-engine rear-wheel drive setup for ages, it was being rumoured that the all-new Corvette might change the rules of the game i.e. get a mid-engine rear-wheel drive setup and Venture into the supercar/hypercar category.
The test mules of the C8 Corvette, especially with their front set cab, small hood and the large dinghy void in the back, did indicate a change in this direction. But these images, which were first leaked on Jalopnik, kind of confirm the same, especially after GM asked them to take the pictures down.
The leaked CAD model pictures show the front suspension setup (with the lack of engine), the rear sub-frame with the single-wishbone suspension setup and the entire engine assembly. We can also see the hybrid monocoque-spaceframe architecture which keeps the weighing scale in check while making sure there is enough rigidity.
It is also rumoured that the new Corvette will GO the turbocharged way with the two 4.2-litre and 5.5-litre V8s, belting out close to 650bhp and 850bhp of power respectively. The current 6.2-litre V8 might also continue but it will certainly be reworked for better efficacy.
