      Best of the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show

      The ongoing 2013 Shanghai Motor Show has witnessed some major new model showcases by the top international auto makers, such as BMW, Volkswagen, Ford, Porsche, Bugatti and Maserati, amongst others. All big names in the global automobile industry are present in Shanghai, presenting their best technological breakthroughs, along with enticing new models and concept vehicles. The Shanghai auto salon also features vehicle displays from top Chinese auto majors like Great Wall, Chery, BYD, Brilliance and Dongfeng.

      BMW, the German premium automotive marque, has unveiled its X4 concept in Shanghai, which is pegged to sit between its X3 and X5 compact crossover models. The BMW X4 is expected to hit the company stores sometime in the first half of 2014 calendar year. BMW’s German contemporary- Audi has also pulled the wraps of its A3 and S4 premium sedan models at the show. The A3 is pegged to become the company’s cheapest sedan offering in the global auto markets, whereas the new S4 would be among Audi’s most affordable high performance sedan models.

      Audi’s parent company, Volkswagen chose this year’s Shanghai Motor Show as its preferred event to unveil its CrossBlue Coupe, whose nomenclature suggests it is a coupe when actually it looks more like a crossover. Volkswagen also displayed its iBeetle model and subsidiary Skoda’s Superb facelift in Shanghai. Volkswagen’s another subsidiary luxury automobile making company- Porsche displayed its new Panamera model range with an exciting new plug-in hybrid model at the motor show.

      Further, the American auto giant, Ford Motor Company, also chose Shanghai Motor Show to introduce a new version of its iconic Escort model, which has been created especially for the Chinese auto market. Most interesting fact about the new Ford Escort model is that it has been fitted with a 1.5 litre EcoBoost petrol power-mill, which would also power the company’s upcoming Mondeo model.

      Automobili Lamborghini, the legendary Italian super sports car maker, is celebrating its 50th anniversary in the global automobile industry at this year’s Shanghai Motor Show. The ‘Raging Bull’ maker has a super car line-up of the stunning Veneno, along with special edition versions of the Gallardo and Aventador models. The Italian super car maker is set to remain in spot light throughout the course of the auto salon.

      Maserati, another iconic Italian super car manufacturer, is showcasing its Ghibli model in Shanghai, which is being called a direct rival of the BMW 5 Series luxury sedan. The 2013 Maserati Ghibli is mostly in the headlines for being the company’s first model powered by a diesel powertrain. The other big model showcases at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show were the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse convertible and the long wheelbase version of the Rolls-Royce Ghost coupe.
