Bentley, the ultra luxury car manufacturer has announced that its first sports utility vehicle will be called the Bentley Bentayga. Bentley calls it the “sector defining” SUV and it will offer an impressive combination of on-road and off-road driving. The vehicle will be showcased to public later this year and will be launched in 2016.
The word Bentayga is derived from the rugged peak from the subtropical Canary Islands- the Roque Bentayga. Wolfgang Durheimer, Chairman and CEO of Bentley Motors, said “Bentayga is a name that reflects what we know our SUV will do better than any other car in the world – combine the best automotive luxury with outstanding performance to take the Bentley experience to new environments.”
The company hasn’t yet revealed much about the styling and technical specifications of this SUV. The vehicle is likely to source its styling with the Continental GT and EXP 9 F concept. Going by the spyshots available on different websites, the new SUV gets the large, prominent mesh front grille which is complemented by Oval shaped headlamp clusters and dual air vents positioned on the lower side of the front bumper.
Based on the MLB Evo platform, the Bentley Bentayga is expected to be powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 engine or the segment-leading 6.0-litre W12 motor. A plug-in hybrid variant of the crossover is also on cards.
