      Bajaj registers 18 percent jump in sales during January 2011

      Country’s leading two-wheeler maker Bajaj Auto announced on Wednesday that it has registered a sales growth of 18 percent in the month of January 2011. The major contributor to this growth were strong sales of Bajaj’s popular Bikes Discover and Pulsar. The company said in a filling to the Bombay Stock Exchange that Pulsar and Discover constituted 68 percent of company’s total sales of 3,13,583 units during the month. In January 2010, the company had sold a total of 2,66,018 units of its vehicles.

      In the motorcycle segment, Bajaj Auto registered an 18 percent jump to 2,75,622 units in January, 2011, as compared to 2,32,939 units sold in the same month previous year. On the other hand, the commercial vehicle sales of the company stood at 37,961 units during the month as compared to 32,969 units sold in the year-ago period, accounting a 15 percent increase in the sales. Moreover, the company’s exports jumped by 44 percent to 1,03,526 units during the month, as against 71,695 units dispatched to the overseas market in January, 2010.

      In the first 10 months (January to April) of this financial year, the company sold a total of 3,189,339 units as compared to 2,309,625 units sold in the same month preceding year, accounting a 38 per cent jump in total sales.
