The RE60 from Bajaj Auto has been creating a lot of ripples in the auto industry ever since it was revealed in January 2012. Sources have now revealed that the company may finally launch the much awaited model on 25th September, 2015. The company has reportedly invested about Rs 550 Crore in the RE60 project and its plant holds a production capacity of about 60,000 units every year.
The Bajaj RE60 gets a 216cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke petrol engine under the hood. Apart from Petrol, the company shall also offer the new model in CNG and LPG variants. Back in 2013, the Government of India had approved a new class of vehicle in the commercial space, but due to various legal issues it could not be launched in the market soon.
The vehicle's interior has been kept to bare minimum so as to keep the overall cost low. Pricing and other details would be known at a later date. The vehicle could likely emerge as a safer and better option than the current auto rickshaw fleet in the country.
