      Bajaj Auto increases employee wages by INR 10,000 per month

      Labor unrest and months of negotiation between Pune-based Bajaj Auto and its Chakan plant unions have finally reached an agreement wherein the management has agreed to increase the wages by up to Rs. 10,000 per month for its employees. As per the new agreement, permanent employees that have been with the company for five or more years would be entitled to receive wage hike of about Rs, 10,000 per month, whereas employees who have spent three years or more shall receive Rs. 9,500 a month as increment.

      Employees seemed to be happy with this decision. One of the company sources said to PTI, “We are happy that the Chakan union has agreed to our proposals on the wage hike, which we had come up with at the time we entered into negotiations with them.” The settlement came in last week post talks reached a conclusion between Vishwakalyan Kamgar Sanghatna based at Chakan plant and the management.

      A source from the union said, “In all, the minimum hike now stands at Rs. 10,280 and the maximum at Rs. 11,520 following the tweaking of perks and variables.” As per the new agreement, the Rs. 12,000 annual attendance award has been converted to Rs. 1,000 per month full attendance reward. The new agreement shall be held effective from April 1, 2013 for three years and end post 18-month uncertainty as the period earlier was affected by strikes and frequent labor unrest Pune's Chakan facility.
