In efforts to make driving in dark safer, the Haryana Government has made auto-dippers mandatory for new four-wheel transport vehicles in terms of Rule 106 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. As per regulation, the state's registration authorities will not be registering vehicles without auto-dippers and it should comply as per rules.

The registration process will only be completed when the auto dipper system is sourced by transport department approved manufacturer. As for manufacturers, they will have to declare that the system installation can be done without tampering the original wiring system. Moreover, the manufacturers will also have to submit one sample of auto-dipper system with application on a transport vehicle which comes for inspection and verification.

Driving at high beam unnecessarily post sunset is not just a nuisance but also lethal for oncoming traffic as it instantly blinds them. The auto-dipper system is programmed to automatically lower the headlight beam every time it senses an oncoming traffic, thereby not causing much trouble to oncoming vehicles. Moving ahead, existing vehicles in Haryana might also have to get auto-dippers in their vehicles. More details on the same will be known in the coming days.
