Audi has released a teaser image suggesting a new SUV to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show to be held in the first week of March. With the empty parking slot in the beginning of the line-up, the SUV could be anything of the Q1 or the Q2. Audi secured the ‘Q’ series of names from Fiat just a month back, paving the way for the unveiling.

Audi nomenclature suggests that after the Q7, the Q5 and the Q3, the latest addition to the portfolio would be the Q1. But at the same time, Audi has also said that they will begin the deliveries of the Q2 by the end of 2016 for Europe. Which means, there is a higher probability of the production version of the Audi Q2 making it to Geneva rather than the Q1.

Whatever be the badge, the new Q will be important for the German manufacturer to take on the compact luxury crossover segment. As per the latest rendering, the new Q seems to have been built on the MQB platform rather than the Audi A1’s small car platform. Which also indicates that it will use the same 2.0-litre diesel mill powering the front wheels as found in the A3 in the front-wheel-drive setup.

While we are not sure when Audi would do it, but they will certainly want to bring the smaller Q to India. The Q would ideally be positioned between the Audi A3 and the A4 sedans and below the Q3 SUV to tap the hugely popular entry-level luxury SUV market in India.
