Audi Q3 Sport to be launched in India before 2013 end

Audi India, the much appreciated domestic arm of German premium car maker, seems to be preparing for the launch of Q3 Sport model in the country. Reportedly, this model will be a low cost variant of the Q3 compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), which will be placed alongside the premium hatchbacks of its close competitors Mercedes-Benz and BMW. Interestingly, both of these auto makers are betting on their premium hatchbacks and have recently introduced their new models, in order to capitalise on the growing segment.

Despite of concentrating on the launch of A3 Sportback, Audi is working on the development of a new compact SUV as its strategy is revolving around the fact that Q3 will surely come as a more value for proposition model for the price sensitive Indian buyers. Also, it must be noted that the Indian buyers have a preference of a utility vehicle. Sources close to the development process stated that the base model of Q3 will come with a reduced price tag of around Rs. 3.5 lakh as it will not feature the Quattro all-wheel drive system and the DSG transmission system.

Named as Q3 Sport, the new model will only have the front wheel drive, which will be controlled through a six-speed manual gearbox. Coming to the technical specifications of the Q3 Sport, the model will feature toned down version of 2.0 TDI engine, which will churn out a maximum power of 140 bhp, similar to the Audi A4, instead of 177 bhp being produced in the standard model of Q3 2.0 TDI. The key highlights of the upcoming SUV will be leather seats, cruise control, voice dialogue system, climate control, MMI with Bluetooth connectivity and 18-inch alloy wheels, amid others. Industry experts are of a view that the launch of a new economically priced variant of Audi Q3 compact SUV will surely grab the attention of Indian auto aficionados.
