A petrol powered version of the Audi Q7 has been launched in the Indian market and is priced at Rs 67.76 lakhs (All-India ex-showroom). Audi, for a long time, had been missing from the big petrol SUV game among the German three but with this model has jumped on to the bandwagon.

The engine powering this Q7 is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder unit producing 249bhp/370Nm of torque. This engined has been mated to an eight-speed AT and quattro AWD system. It tops out at 233kmph and does the 0-100kmph sprint in 6.9 seconds.

Like its diesel siblings, this Q7 too gets multi-zone climate control, Audi MMI infotainment system with floating display, leather seats, full LED headlamps and tail lamps as well as virtual cockpit for the instrument panel as standard.  In addition, the Q7 is also offered with a host of accessories ranging from a roof box all the way to a pair of screen for the rear passengers.

The arrival of this petrol model is a major step up for the Q7 as Audi can now give competition to the Mercedes-Benz GLS400 and the BMW X5 xDrive35i. However, its 2.0-litre motor is a lot smaller as compared to the direct rivals like the Mercedes-Benz GLS 400 and the BMW X5 xDrive35i. This move points to a plan of this petrol model being a secondary rather than an alternative for the diesel variants.  These are big petrol SUVs for those who drive less but want all the frills of big car. It’s a move also guided by the increase in demand for petrol SUVs in the Indian market.
