Audi begins testing its next generation S8

What you see in the pictures is a heavily camouflaged Audi S8 that’s being tested in the cold weather of northern Europe. It was only in September 2016 that Audi was last caught testing the S8 at the Nurburgring track.

What gives away the identity of this sporty version, which is based on the next A8, is that it reveals the quad exhausts at the rear. Also, as this model is a performance oriented variant of the next generation A8, it will only be launched a few months after the brand debuts the new A8 at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Though there’s no official confirmation about the motor that will power the new S8, sources suggest that Audi may plug Porsche’s new 550bhp 4.0-litre biturbo V8, which presently powers the latest Panamera Turbo. It remains to be seen how Audi will tweak this powertrain further, as the current S8 Plus already pumps out 605bhp.

Also, Audi has not revealed any intentions of building an RS8, so it is expected that the S8 Plus will be the range topper along with the A8 W12. Reports state that the W12 is all set to receive the new 608bhp 6.0-litre biturbo motor from the Bentley Bentayga. Stay tuned.
