Audi A5 Cabriolet revealed ahead of 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show debut

Ahead of its official debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 14, Audi has showcased the new A5 Cabriolet. The vehicle is set for its official UK launch in 2017. The upcoming model shares a similar design language as the A5 Coupe, but comes forth as an open top sporty version. The new model claims to focus on safety, driving dynamics and performance.

In terms of dimensions, the new A5 Cabriolet is about 47mm longer that its predecessor at 4673mm. The vehicle will also get an additional wheelbase of 14mm as compared to the older generation model at 2,795mm. Under the hood, the new A5 Cabriolet is expected to be offered with two petrol and two diesel engine options. The petrol is likely to come with 2.0 TFSI engine as standard which generates around 249bhp, while those looking for more power can opt for 3.0-litre TFSI engine which generates 349bhp of power and capable of sprinting from 0 – 100kmph in just about five seconds. As for the diesel version, potential customers can either opt between the  2.0-litre TDi engine which puts out 187bhp of power and a 3.0-litre TDI engine which generates 215bhp of power.

The German automaker claims that the new engines offers about 17 per cent more power and 22 per cent more fuel efficiency than the older model. The new A5 Cabriolet sports a strong shoulder lines, steeply raked rear window angle, signature Led headlamps and a trademark grille. The soft-top acoustic roof is capable of automatically opening in just about 15 seconds, while closing it takes about 18 seconds at speeds of up to 50kmph. The convertible will also get an automatically opening boot lid.

Inside, the new Audi A5 Cabriolet will get an optional 12.3-inch high definition digital instrument display and a head-up display unit. Seatbelt microphones come as standard and blend neatly with the premium upholstery. The dashboard gets a standard 7-inch monitor that can be upgraded to an 8.3-inch unit. The car gets a boot space of 380-litres which can be utilised further with 50:50 split rear seat arrangement. More details about the new model will be known post its debut at the Los Angels Auto Show.
