Audi India is slated to bring the facelifted version of the A3 sedan to India in the first quarter of 2017. The A3 sedan has been updated globally last year and is available with four body-styles. The A3 sedan facelift will receive cosmetic updates as well as a revised powertrain.

The new A3 will come with the Audi’s bespoke Matrix headlights as option while the newly designed Xenon-LED lights will come standard. Other tweaks on the outside includes a revised front grille with larger air intakes, resembling the bigger A4, and a reworked LED taillights. On the inside, the most striking difference is the new flat-bottom steering wheel and the Audi Virtual Cockpit. A 12.3-inch TFT screen replaces the instrument cluster whereas the 7-inch centre-mounted MMI screen has been revised as well.

The major revision to the facelifted A3 will be the engines. Instead of the powerful 1.8-litre petrol engine, the new A3 will get a smaller 1.4-litre TFSI engine. Just like in the A4, despite the lower power output, the performance might not take a hit. As far as diesel option is concerned, Audi will initially bring the A3 in India with a petrol engine only. The diesel power-plant for the A3 will follow the A4. Transmission option could be the same seven-speed DSG sending power to front wheels.

The new A3 is expected to be priced marginally higher than the current A3 at about Rs 32 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. When launched in India, the A3 will continue to face competition from the likes of Mercedes-Benz CLA, A-Class and recently facelifted Volvo V40. After the facelifted A3 sedan, the A3 Cabriolet is likely to follow later.
