Aston Martin has revealed their plans of introducing a mid-engined Ferrari 488 rival. The mid-engine supercar will arrive by 2020 as a part the British marque’s model offensive of introducing seven new cars by 2023.

Aston Martin plans a mid-engine supercar for 2020

The yet-to-be-named new mid-engined supercar will fill in the void that exists between the current portfolio of cars – Vantage, DB11 and Vanquish – and the upcoming hypercar, the Valkyrie. The yet-to-be-named supercar will boast of a 50:50 weight distribution, asserts the Gaydon-based carmaker. The expertise from this car will help the Aston Martin in the development of the car that is to be DB11’s replacement - the DB12 scheduled to arrive by 2023. On the other hand, the impending Valkyrie hypercar will spearhead the mid-engine technology for Aston Martin’s 488 rival.

A new financing agreement has made it possible for Aston Martin to invest in newer models, including a mid-engined Ferrari 488 rival. The model offensive will kick-start with the new V8 Vantage later this year. The DB11 Volante was spied on multiple occasions, but its reveal is expected only next year, alongside the all-new Vanquish. The DBX SUV will follow suit in 2019, rolling out of the carmaker’s new production facility in St. Athan, UK. The same plant will also roll out two Lagonda models – Lagonda One and Lagonda Two in 2021 and 2022 respectively. The DB11-replacement is scheduled to break cover in 2023.

Apart from this model offensive, Aston Martin also has an all-electric Rapide on the cards. The alternative powertrain was expected to be scrounged from Faraday Future. The new St.Athans facility has been developed with compatibility for alternative powertrain cars and hence an electrified line-up from Aston Martin is imminent. The DBX SUV and the two Lagonda models will benefit from the electric Rapide.
