Latest spy shots of the new AMG version of the CLS have begun to surface online. However the speculations are that the upcoming luxury sedan will be offered with a newly developed engine and is expected to be dubbed the CLS53.

The new Mercedes-AMG CLS53 is speculated to be the first to debut with the AMG 53 badge. It is likely to be powered by the company’s newly developed in-line six cylinder engine codenamed the M256. However, the engine is expected to be tuned to produce about 430bhp. There have been speculations that the same motor will come mated to an electric motor but there has been no confirmation yet that all 53 variants will have hybrid propulsion.

Launch date of the CLS 53 AMG has not been officially confirmed, but a debut in the next 12 months is very likely. The upcoming Frankfurt motor show in September would make a good platform for Mercedes-Benz to showcase the upcoming CLS53. After the AMG CLS53’s debut the AMG53 badge is expected to be carried to the E-Class Coupe and the Cabriolet as well.
