An all new Wrangler JL will replace the current Wrangler JK, later this year. This update has been long overdue given that the current generation Wrangler JK was launched in 2007. In the meantime, images of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited have surfaced online allowing us to glean a few important details of the new JL Wrangler.

Although a bit grainy, the leaked images hints that the new Wrangler JL won’t be a ground-breaking makeover from the outgoing SUV. The design remains the same, but the images suggest that the new Wrangler will have a flatter hood, with a slightly more aerodynamic grille. The window-surround gets a recess, due to which the door handles are positioned abit lower, while the windshield will be foldable as suggested by the hinges at the bottom. The SUV in the image carries a redesigned front bumper, whereas the front fenders get air vents behind the wheel arches, which now carry an LED-strip at the front. The second image confirms the fact that the new Wrangler will have a removable roof. The doors can be stripped off as well, while the car will feature a solid body roll-cage as standard. The rear fender has recesses while there is a mounting on the tailgate where the spare tyre would reside (not shown in the image). The wrap -around tail lamps are expected to be LED, similar to those on the Renegade. As far as engine options go, the new Wrangler will house a 3.0-litre V6 Pentastar turbo-diesel engine. Besides that, a new four-pot turbocharged “Hurricane" engine is expected to join the range as well.

As reported earlier, the new Wrangler will go into production this November. The car has been spotted by our spy photographers on a couple of occasions with new features and add-ons for a first time on a Wrangler - a back-up camera, and different type of roofs. It will be manufactured at Jeep’s facility in Toledo, Ohio, where the Cherokee and Wrangler JK are currently being produced. The all-new Wrangler is expected to debut at this year’s Los Angeles Motor Show.
