After showcasing it early on in 2015, Hyundai has officially brought the all-new Tucson to India. The stylish looking crossover has been unveiled at the ongoing Auto Expo 2016 in Delhi. With its striking new design and sportier underpinnings than ever before, the new Tucson looks bold enough to represent another leap forward for Hyundai.

In terms of design, the front of the new Tucson is dominated by Hyundai’s signature hexagonal front grille, which connects with the LED headlamps. The front bumper features a wing-shaped appearance, which incorporates the LED daytime running lights, giving a visual reference to the vehicle’s wide track. The rear, meanwhile, has a clean design with horizontal lines that flow from the rear wheel arches and are accentuated by slim tail lights.

The Tucson is built on a completely new platform and is claimed to feature generous interior dimensions. It delivers substantial 513-litres of luggage space with all the seats up. Globally, Hyundai is offering two petrol engines, a 135bhp 1.6-litre GDI or a 176bhp 1.6-litre T-GDI, plus three diesel options 115bhp, 1.7-litre, 136bhp 2--litre ‘standard power’ or 184bhp, 2-litre ‘high power’ engine units. Besides a manual, the new Tucson is available with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic unit for specific versions. However, it remains to be seen what engine options Hyundai India has in stores for us.

The old Tucson could never do well in the Indian market despite the scarcity of rivals. This new model, however, will face fierce competition from other premium crossovers. When launched, the Tucson will be positioned in between the Creta and the Santa Fe in Hyundai India’s line-up.
