By the end of 2008, Suzuki shall establish a manufacturing capacity of 1 million in India. Suzuki Motor Corporation has already announced Rs 9000 crore capacity expansion and R&D till 2010. It has already its plans to launch A Star and Splash in India soon.
Apart from its expansion plans, now it also plans to bring its designing center for small cars to India. In next 2 to 3 years, it plans to build a fully designed engineered and manufactured car in India. The company is already training Indian engineers in Suzuki Japanese facility. Once it opens a designing center, it shall double its number of engineers from 480 to 1000. Currently, the hatchback model Swift and A Star were developed with the help of Indian engineers in Japan.
Suzuki is also in the process of identifying land for setting up its Research and development unit near its Manesar facility. This unit shall contain various testing and simulation facilities in addition to world class testing tracks.
The company also plans to expand the current capacity of Manesar unit as well as Gurgaon plant that would make it largest mass producer of cars in the country.
