      After India, Toyota Etios to take Brazilian route

      he world’s largest auto maker Toyota Motors is planning to launch its popular entry level sedan – Etios – in the Brazilian market by the end of year 2012. The Etios sedan was launched in the Indian market in December 2010 and since then it has been among the highest selling cars of its segment.

      "In August 2010, Toyota decided to construct a vehicle plant in Sorocaba, Brazil. This plant is expected to produce the Etios small vehicle introduced in India with an annual production capacity of 70,000 units. The plant is expected to commence production in late 2012,” said the company in a filing to the US Securities Exchange Commission.

      The Etios series of car have specially been developed for the emerging markets like India. As many as 4,000 Toyota engineers have spent over five years to develop the car as per the needs and requirements of the buyers in this region.

      TKM (Toyota Kirloskar Motors), the Indian unit of this Japanese auto giant, currently produces 6,000 units of the Etios series cars in the Indian market. The company plans to take this capacity to 8,000 units by September this year with the opening of its second manufacturing unit in Bangalore in coming months.
