      A glance at the all-new Chevrolet Captiva 2.2 Automatic Transmission

      General Motors, the American multinational auto maker, declared the launch of the hotly anticipated 2.2 Automatic Transmission version of the Chevrolet Captivain the Indian auto market. The new variant of Captiva, priced between Rs. 18.75 to 24.6 lacs (Ex-showroom Delhi), is assimilated with a brand new 2.2 litre engine, which is mated to a six speed automatic gearbox. This performance-oriented motor churns out peak power of 186.5 bhp at 3800 rpm with 420 Nm at 2000 rpm of maximum torque. Although the new top-end variant is assimilated with a powerful, all-new engine and features new designing language, the model's lower variants run on the same old 2.0 VCDi powertrain and remain unchanged.

      Speaking about the success of Captiva, Lowell Paddock, President and Managing Director, General Motors India, stated, “The Captiva has been warmly welcomed in markets around the world due to its combination of distinctive styling, refinement, best-in-class safety, comfort and versatility and powerful yet frugal diesel powertrain. In India, it has established a clear niche for itself in the premium SUV segment. The Captiva is everything our customers across India have come to associate with the Chevrolet nameplate.”

      Coming to the exterior appearance of new version of Captiva, its front fascia features the ‘bow tie’ logo of the brand, which is mounted on the characteristic Chevrolet split grille. The re-worked lower bumper has little space for number plate and also houses re-designed fog lamps mountings and a faux diffuser. Highlighting the designing terminology followed at the rear end of car, the new Captiva 2.2 AT is provided with a bigger tailgate and an exclusively designed taillight cluster.

      The new Captiva 2.2 AT runs on the tyres (size 235/65 R 17) that were seen in the previous editions of the car. Adding to passenger convenience, the SUV boasts of a new, flexible seating arrangement that can easily accommodate seven individuals in 2+3+2 configuration. When folded flat, the seating arrangement offers 1,565 litres of space for luggage.

      In order to make the interiors of all-new Chevrolet 2.2 AT more appealing, a new jet-black tone has been followed inside the cabin. Features like cruise control, all-leather upholstery, third-row HVAC vents, electric parking brake, rain-sensing wipers, sunroof and remote-operated tailgate glass are provided in the interiors of the new Chevrolet Captiva2.2 AT. Other additions in the model include a 2-DIN CD/MP3 player with six speakers, eight-way power adjustable driver seat and electronic climate control system with particle filter.

      Besides, the car has various places for storage, like wet/dry area under the load compartment floor, cooled glove box, a deep centre console bin, and rear centre console storage area. Adding to these, occupants can store handy things in door bins, bottle holders, small item/coin and cup holders, parking ticket holder, overhead sunglasses compartment, and dual-compartment sliding driver’s armrest. The new Captiva 2.2 AT also features three 12V power outlets that all occupants can reach conveniently.

      Along with comfort features, the company has provided a handful of safety features within the car to ensure total safety of its passengers. Advancements like 6 airbags, front seatbelt pre-tensioners as well as load limiters, height-adjustable front seatbelts, and four-channel Antilock Braking System (ABS). In addition to these, Brake Assist (BA), re-configured power steering wheel for instant reaction, and recalibrated four-link independent suspension system at the rear with McPherson struts at the front are present in the model. With so many advancements, the model seems well equipped to face off against cars like Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Outlander, Hyundai Santa Fe, BMW X1and Ford Endeavour.
