The country's most affordable car, the Tata Nano, is now offering accessories worth Rs. 25000 on the CX and LX variants. This special edition of the vehicle offers some more value for money now, and seems to be a ploy with two main objectives: one, to increase the sales of the lacklustre Nano during the festive season, and second, to compete strongly against the Maruti Alto 800.

Available in limited numbers, the Special Edition Nano has been launched in specific states such as West Bengal, Karnataka, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Kerala, Assam, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Nagaland. New features offered in this edition include special decals, uniquely placed “Special Edition” stickers, alloy wheels, 2 glove boxes, and a car audio system with USB, Bluetooth, ipod connectivity and MP3.

The Nano has received mixed responses in the Indian market. The car had been launched as a suitable alternative for those customers who are either looking for a second car, or an affordable alternative to two wheelers. Since its launch in 2008, the vehicle also had problems, with some of the cars catching fire. These factors, along with lack of engine refinement, have resulted in moderate sales. However, certain features such as abundant interior space and fuel efficiency have been some of the plus points for the Nano.
