       A few legends at the 2016 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance

      Pebble Beach is home to the Concours d’Elegance, an annual exhibition of classic cars. What used to be a small social event paired with a road race through the pine forests of Pebble Beach, is now a top-ranking collector car competition in the world.

      We look at some of the legends.  

      1966 Bizzarrini P538 Italdesign Manta concept

      1966 Bizzarrini P538 Italdesign Manta concept: The Bizzarrini Manta concept made it to the drawing board thanks to Italy’s most famous auto designer, Giorgetto Giugiaro. It is the design lines from this concept that was prominently spelled out in the Ferrari Modulo of 1970. Equipped with a Bizzarrini Le Mans chassis, this car also comes with a Chevy V8 nestling behind those seats.

      1965 Ford GT40 P/1015 Mark II

      1965 Ford GT40 P/1015 Mark II: Ford’s GT40 won the Daytona 24 Hours in 1966, and the freshly restored 1965 Ford GT40 Mark II in the picture was done up by ‘Rare Drive’ in the United Kingdom (vintage car restorer). This particular car was showcased at Pebble Beach along other Ford GTs celebrating the 50th anniversary of their triumph at the Le Mans.

      1962 Ferrari 250GTE Police car

      1962 Ferrari 250GTE Police car: Rumours  Word has it that two 1962 Ferrari 250GTE patrol cars made it to an elite few cops who were successful at reducing crime in Rome. Only one of the cars completed their cop-tenure until it was decommissioned from service in 1969. Ferrari’s 250GTE was used extensively in the racing arena back then.

      1936 Lancia Astura Pinin Farina cabriolet

      1936 Lancia Astura Pinin Farina cabriolet: This is the car that won the ‘Best of Show’ prize. The Lancia Astura Pinin Farina cabriolet is a fine specimen of exotic detailing and it features a curved side glass, hydraulic power top and a 19 degree V8 motor. It was in the 1960s that Pininfarina got to know about this car and offered to restore it. This 1936 Lancia Astura Pinin Farina cabriolet has had a thorough restoration recently.

      1932 Stutz DV-32 LeBaron Speedster

      1932 Stutz DV-32 LeBaron Speedster: The Stutz DV-32 LeBaron Speedster is powered by a straight-eight motor. This iteration has a “V-32” badge on the grille that puts it in the last series of automobiles made by Stutz Motor Company (American luxury car maker 1911-1935). Reports claim that this car was purchased at the 1932 New York auto show for 5200 USD (Rs 3.49 lakh).
