      2019 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R spied

      The 2019 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has been spotted at a dealer’s stockyard ahead of its official debut in India on 23 January. Although we had revealed the exterior details recently, this time around the upcoming vehicle has been spied inside out. The all-new Wagon R gets a fresh set of cosmetic, feature and mechanical upgrades.

      Visually, the new Wagon R clearly looks bigger and more spacious than its predecessors. The new model has retained the tall boy stance, but with a cross-MPV styled design. The hatchback will get large headlamps and vertically stacked tail lamps on the C-pillar. It is believed that the test mule could be one of the top spec variants as it featured chrome element around fog lamps, inside headlamps and a rear defogger and wiper. Moreover, the top spec variant is likely to get a roof-integrated spoiler with high mounted stop lamps. To distinguish it from the older generation, the new model gets a redesigned grille and a new bumper with a black air intake. The bonnet is now flatter than less angular than its predecessor.

      As for the interior, the new model will get dual-tone interior, and beige and brown upholstery. The new model gets a revised instrument cluster and a touchscreen in the top spec version. The top spec version spied on test also features a 12V phone charging socket, electrically adjustable mirrors, four power windows, manual air conditioning and a multifunction steering wheel. Known for practicality, the new Wagon R is also expected to offer additional pockets for Knick knacks, cup holders and bottle holders.

      Mechanically the new Wagon R is expected to continue being powered by the existing 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine. However, the top spec Wagon R variant which is spied in pictures gets a bigger 1.2-litre, four-cylinder engine which generates 82bhp of power and 115Nm of torque. This is the same engine which powers the Swift and the Ignis. The new-gen Wagon R will be available in manual and AMT options. As for safety, the upcoming model will offer dual front airbags and ABS with EBD as standard.
