Volkswagen Polo-based B-segment SUV spied on test

Volkswagen's Polo-based B-segment SUV was snapped taking rounds in Germany. It shows off some styling changes that it should carry on to the production version into the latter half of next year.

Well it's hard to tell which exterior details will be seen in the new SUV's design given how extensively it is disguised. The larger overhangs and roof rails hint at the carmakers intention of coming up with a bigger model. Apart from the increase in its dimensions, the vehicle is expected to borrow design traits from the T-Cross Breeze concept that was shown at the Geneva Motor Show. Meanwhile speculations suggest the SUV will be based on the next generation Polo’s MQB architecture.

VW’s upcoming new SUV will benefit from the new engine options from the Polo range. These are expected to be the revised versions of the brand’s 1.0-litre, three-cylinder motor, as well as a range of 1.5-litre petrol and diesel units. It will also get a choice of manual and dual-clutch automatic transmissions like the current ones.

Volkswagen is most likely to launch the mini SUV in various markets around the world in 2018. The T-Cross Breeze concept had previewed this upcoming compact SUV from VW confirming that it will be based on the latest iteration of their most popular hatchback - the Polo.

At present, the German manufacturer doesn't have any SUV model in their Indian portfolio. Going by the strong growth shown by the SUV segment in our Indian market, the possibility of VW launching this new SUV in our country cannot be ruled out.
