As we reported earlier, the replacement for the current generation Jeep Wrangler is under development. Set to be offered with new engine options and a more aerodynamic design, the new generation Wrangler has been caught testing again, and this time with lesser camouflage.

A fixed windshield, longer front-end and more bulging front fenders represent the changes in the new car. Mechanically, the new Wrangler will use significant amounts of aluminum in the name of weight reduction. That being said, the body will be mostly made of steel.

Under the hood, the 2018 Wrangler is likely to retain the Pentastar V6 motor with the addition of a turbo-diesel 3.0L V6 and a Hybrid powertrain for American and global markets being high possibilities. Both engines will be mated to an eight-speed automatic to aid fuel efficiency. Jeep officials have insisted that the Wrangler's off-road abilities will only be improved, despite the changes made for reasons of fuel economy.

We expect to see the new Wrangler to make its public debut at the 2017 LA Auto Show.
