The 2018 second generation Hyundai Santro has been officially unveiled. It's the second generation for the iconic nameplate and will be launched in India on October 23. Bookings for the car start from 10 October and there is a special offer of Rs 11100 as booking amount for first 50,000 customers.

As confirmed by previously revealed images, the Santro gets a tall boy design. The headlamps are sweptback and sit on the edges of the face while the family look cascading grille gets a ring of chrome around its inner perimeter. In profile, of course, is the tall boy silhouette, heavily flared wheel arches and body coloured pillars.

Also of notice is that the rear door line is slightly higher than the one in front. At the rear, this all new Santro gets a hatch door very similar to the one seen on the Grand i10 as well Eon. The tail lamps are placed on the outer edges of the rear section and are visible in the silhouette.

The interiors will be a beige and black affair across all variants. The highlight for this new car is 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay/Mirror Link. The system also gets an Android only iBlue smartphone app as well as a voice recognition system.

The top-of-the-line variants will get body coloured door handles, rear-air con vents, rear parking sensors with camera, electrically adjustable ORVMs, steering mounted audio controls and remote fuel lid opener.

Hyundai says it has heavily worked on insulation with emphasis on engine noise insulation, wind noise isolation, road noise isolation and what the automaker calls an acoustic air duct to minimise NVH from the engine.

This new Santro gets a new 1.1-litre four-cylinder engine producing 67bhp/99Nm. It will be offered with a five-speed manual or the first time a five-speed automated manual transmission (AMT). This engine is also being offered with a company fitted CNG kit. Here the 1.1-litre engine produces 58bhp/84Nm. The petrol variants (MT/AMT) have an ARAI fuel efficiency of 20.3kmpl while the CNG unit does 30.5km per kg.

Online pre-booking for the new Santro being from tomorrow and will run till 22 October with Rs 11100 set as the amount for first 50,000 customers as an introductory offer. This is Hyundai’s re-entry into the entry-level B-segment of the Indian car market and will be launched on October 23 in India. This car is their rival for the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, Tata Tiago and the Maruti Suzuki Celerio.
