The first 4-door to be built ground-up in Affalterbach under the Mercedes-AMG badge is out and it is called the AMG GT 4-door Coupe. We already have the Mercedes AMG GT Coupe and it is a two-door and also gets the GT4 version which might be the reason why Mercedes refrained from calling the GT 4-door a GT4.

But, what´s in the name, especially when the car that we are talking about looks like this. Just like its little 2-door sibling, the 4-door is built with the sole purpose of going fast and looks that part as well. The vertically slatted grille, muscular bonnet creases and the large air dam make sure it has the right aggression while the raked windshield, the swell wheel arches and the sloping roofline gives it the finesse of a coupe.

On the inside, things are as luxurious as they should be in an AMG and that too a GT at that. So everything that needs to move will do so at the flick of a switch or do it by itself. Also, all the components of the cabin are wrapped in the choicest of the materials and exude excellent fit and finish. Features and technology will certainly match the new generation of the S-Class but with sporty overtones.

The AMG GT 4-door Coupe will get two engine options mated to the nine-speed automatic gearbox which transfers power to all four wheels. The 4.0-litre twin turbocharged V8 whips out 630bhp of power for the 63 S and 577bhp for the standard 63. The new generation 3.0-litre straight six petrol engine pumps 429bhp and will power the entry-level GT53 4-door. The 63 S gets the ‘drift’ feature standard while it is an option on the 63 and not offered on the 53.

You will get an optional aero-kit if you want to GO a little more radical with the looks, but despite possessing this ultimately fast body, this AMG GT aims to be a comfy family grand-touring car. You will have to wait till late this year or early 2019 to get hold of one in Europe and we think its India-debut might not be too far behind the global schedule.
