Lexus has taken the Detroit stage with a new LF-1 Limitless concept. The design study will spawn a new flagship luxury crossover from Lexus in the coming year.

2018 Detroit Auto Show Lexus reveals the new LF-1 Limitless concept

Developed in collaboration with CALTY Design Research, the same firm that gave us the FT-1 concept, the LF-1 carries the characteristic Lexus elements. The design language is dubbed “molten katana” with all its curves and creases. The footprint is slightly larger than the LX. The imposing front fascia is far from subtle with its special-coloured Spindle grille. The raked D-pillar is complemented by a strip of tail lights running across the rear.

The flashy 22-inch wheels, split rear spoiler, raised ride height, bulging fenders, low roofline, and sporty proportions define the LF-1 concept. The Japanese carmaker highlights the sporty intentions of the concept as well. One interesting thing about Lexus design is that majority of the design elements of this concept can and will be retained in the production car.

The futuristic cabin is aimed at luxury and functionality. The future Lexus models could scrounge details from the LF-1’s cabin. There is a plethora of screens all around with exotic materials and easy to use interface, to make life inside the LF-1 easier than one can imagine.

The new car based on the Limitless concept will be positioned above the RX in the carmaker’s portfolio. Like its name, the possibilities for powertrains are limitless, boasts Lexus. The concept could be powered by fuel cell, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, gasoline, or even all-electric.
