Following the global debut of the standard 2017 GT-R, Nissan has now unveiled the more hard-core Nismo version. This new limited-run model, in fact, has just been shown at the infamous Nurburgring circuit in Germany, before the start of deliveries by end-2016.

Design wise, the GT-R Nismo’s front end features the same revised bodywork that’s highlighted by a new bumper. But unlike the standard model, the bumpers here are made of carbon fibre. Overall, the car’s new shape generates more downforce than most production cars for improved high-speed stability. Inside, Nissan has fitted a pair of Recaro carbon bucket seats with red alcantara inserts.

The mechanicals have also been upgraded, thanks in part to the standard model’s significantly reinforced body. The stiffened body structure has allowed the engineers to refine the Nismo’s shock absorbers, springs and stabilizers, all of which, when combined with the car’s added downforce, result in a better handling car than the previous model.

The 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 engine mostly remains unchanged, meaning it develops 592bhp at 6,800rpm and 652Nm of torque between 3,600rpm and 5,600rpm. It’s paired to a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Deliveries for the 2017 Nissan GT-R Nismo are expected to begin by end of this year. The car will be positioned above the standard GT-R which is already a pretty spectacular product as far as four-seater sports cars go.
