Six months ago Hyundai had introduced the new-gen Verna in China. This time around, ahead of its India debut in August 2017, a test mule of the upcoming vehicle was spotted undergoing a road test in the country. Based on the company’s successful Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy, the new model seems to be partly inspired by the new Elantra which was introduced earlier last year.

Coming to the design aspect, although this test mule had been heavily camouflaged, we believe it will get similar upgrades as the one which was launched in China. The front gets a large hexagonal chrome lined grille with horizontal slats, while the air dam sports a honeycomb mesh grille. The swept back headlamps feature projector lamps with daytime LED daytime running lights. The bumpers have been redesigned for more angular design and sporty appeal. The sides get a coupe-like profiling, while the boot shares some resemblance to the current generation model.

As for the interiors, the vehicle will get premium upholstery and touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity and a trip metre. Additionally, the new model will offer a host of interesting features like dual zone climate control, push button start, Apple CarPlay and Android connectivity, and a lot more. The India-bound facelift model is expected to be powered by a 1.4-litre petrol and a 1.6-litre diesel engine which generate 106bhp and 89bhp of power, respectively.

The fresh changes in form of design and new feature upgradeswill help the Korean automaker strengthen its position in terms of overall sales in the Indian market. Post launch, the new Verna will emerge as a strong competitor against the likes of Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Fiat Linea, Nissan Sunny, Renault Scala, Skoda Rapid and the Volkswagen Vento in India.
