The 2017 BMW 5 Series has been launched in India. Priced at Rs 49.90 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi), the 5 Series accounts for more than 30 per cent of BMW’s sales in India. It is also the highest selling model in BMW’s Indian portfolio. The new 5 Series features new athletic styling, a slew of creature comforts and serious weight saving measures and is considered to be the most sophisticated and comfortable iteration of the luxury sedan ever produced. Here is a detailed photo gallery of the 2017 BMW 5 Series.
The new design on the 2017 BMW 5 Series has been inspired by the 7 Series. The revised kidney grille, headlamp and the crease lines give it an athletic appeal as opposed to the older car’s conservative design.
The OKL platform, on which the 5 Series is based, incorporates lightweight materials like carbon fibre, aluminium and magnesium to keep weight at bay. As a result, the new 5 Series is 70 kg lighter than before.
The Luxury Line variants get beige upholstery which gives it an elegant look, while the Sport Line trim gets black upholstery with red stitching. The dashboard is finished in black silver.
The 530d is offered with an M Sport package, which comes with black slats for the grille, front and rear apron, diffuser, side skirts, blue brake calipers, trapezoidal tail pipes and a host of ‘M’ badges all around.
The longer wheelbase has resulted in better legroom and headroom for the rear seat occupants. There are two 10-inch displays behind the front seat backrest for entertainment, with HDMI input and headphone ports.
The 5 Series is available with three engine options – two diesel and one petrol. While the base petrol and diesel are 2.0-litre four-cylinder engines, the top-of-the-line diesel variant gets a 3.0-litre flat six.
It also gets new technology like remote control parking and BMW display key with a touchscreen, which allows the 5 Series to be remotely maneuvered into tight parking spaces. It also has wireless charging for mobile phones.
Maintaining their driver-focused approach, all the 5 Series variants are rear-wheel-drive cars, with power being transmitted through a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission.
BMW offers the Sport Line models in white, black, blue and silver. The Luxury Line variants are available in brown and bluestone. The M Sport customers also get the option of Mediterranean blue and carbon black.
