Volkswagen, the German premium carmaker, is now focusing more on sports utility vehicles and crossovers globally. VW is aiming to launch at least 4 new SUVs globally including a sub-compact SUV, compact crossover, mid-sized SUV and premium SUV. VW is also working on the new generation Tiguan SUV, which has already been spotted several times during its test rounds. German media reports suggest that the next Tiguan will be unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in September; however, the company hasn’t revealed much about the exact launch details of the car.
Interestingly, the next generation VW Tiguan SUV will be offered in three body styles including a standard variant, a five-door coupe and a long wheelbase seven-seater variant. It is also expected that the seven-seater version of the Tiguan SUV will be showcased at the 2016 Detroit Motor Show. The crossover will be based on the MQB modular platform. It is expected to share components and styling with SEAT’s first SUV and the Yeti replacement.
Interestingly, the SUV will get both city driving and Adventure variants. While the City-SUV version will get a front wheel drive layout, the Adventure model will feature four-wheel drive layout. The SUV is likely to be offered with a range of 4-cylinder engines. While the petrol engine is likely to be the 1.4L unit, the oil burner is expected to be a 2.0-litre TDI unit.
