Toyota’s new-generation Innova MPV will make its world premiere on 23rd November at the 2015 Jakarta Auto Show, claims a report. Set to rival the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Honda Mobilio, the new Toyota Innova is expected to launch in India in early 2016. It might also be previewed at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. The new-gen Innova receives noticeable cosmetic updates, and a new engine lineup.

Powering the 2016 Innova will be a 2.4-litre and a 2.8-litre GD diesel engine that are equipped with VGT (variable geometric turbocharger) and ESTEC (economy with superior thermal efficient combustion) technologies. The former churns out a maximum power of 160bhp and 400Nm of torque, while the latter delivers 177bhp and 450Nm. Transmission options on offer will be a six-speed manual and an automatic.

The new Innova will be lighter, stiffer and safer than the existing model, thanks to its all-new IMV (International multi-purpose vehicle) platform. The MPV shares some of its design elements with the new-generation Fortuner SUV. It gets sweptback headlamps with double-barrel projectors, a new grille with two chrome slats, revised front and rear bumper, wider air-dam, integrated LED daytime running lamps, new fog lamps, pronounced wheel arches, chrome highlighted license plate enclosure, multi-layered bootlid and new tail-lamp enclosure.

The interior, too, will be more up-market than the existing one. It gets new seat upholstery, a multi-function steering wheel, dashboard and centre console with slightly different design, new instrument cluster with comprehensive MID, automatic climate control, etc. The MPV will continue to be available with seven and eight-seat configuration options.
