Toyota will lift the covers off the 2016 Fortuner on November 7, when they will officially also launch the car for the Indian market. A new teaser image has been released ahead of its launch revealing a part of the SUV's fascia.

The carmaker's Indian counterpart has not revealed any other information on the new Fortuner apart from this single image. However, we have seen the car before  and it gets a sharp styling unlike the existing SUV. And even if this is a departure from the present Fortuner's styling cues, the new design is well accepted globally now. The latest Fortuner is 90mm longer and 15mm wider than the one it will replace. It's 15mm shorter in height as well, though the 2,750mm wheelbase has been retained. It now sports Bi-Beam LED projector headlamps and LED daytime running lights.

Toyota has also revamped the cabin of the latest iteration of the Fortuner. The noteworthy features include an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, electric tailgate, cruise control and a new T-Connect infotainment system with satellite navigation and reversing camera. Then there is A-TRC Traction Control (TRC) system and Down Hill Assist Control (DAC) system.

The engine line-up will be sourced from the Toyota InnovaCrysta's GD diesel units. This includes a 2.4-litre mill producing 149bhp of power and 343Nm of torque, and a 2.8-litre motor that churns out 177bhp and 360Nm of torque. Transmission options will include six-speed manual and six-speed automatic gearboxes, while a 4WD system will be offered in the top-of-the-line variant.

The new-gen Toyota Fortuner will be locally manufactured at TKM’s plant in Karnataka like the current generation model. The latter was launched in India way back in 2009. Now, it has attained almost a cult status and has been a great sales success for the carmaker. We hope the new one will also replicate this success by boasting of a new look, comfortable cabin with new features, while still having the bulletproof reliability of a Toyota product.
