Nissan has unveiled the fifth generation Nissan Micra at the Paris Motor Show. Nissan stayed true to its Sway concept showcased last year with the Micra, as the car is now bigger and better than the previous generation. It will go sale in the European market from March 2017.

According to the Japanese manufacturer, it is also built on newer underpinnings which give it a better handling characteristic. It has the V-motion grille at the front which is a design element for the new-generation Nissan cars. The C-pillar gives an impression of a floating roof. It also hides the rear-door handle nicely lending the car two-door looks. The Micra is now edgier and has standard.16-inches wheels, with an option of 17-inches as well.

The car comes with an option a 900cc 3 cylinder turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel, both capable of 89bhp. The transmission will be a five-speed manual or an optional CVT automatic. An integral part of Nissan Intelligent Mobility, the car features many safety features such as Lane Departure Prevention, Intelligent Emergency Braking with pedestrian recognition, Intelligent around View Monitor, Traffic Sign Recognition, High Beam Assist and blind spot warning with a 360degree camera.

The interior seemed to be borrowed from costlier Nissans as it is now so much more upmarket. A seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a Bose speaker system, a satellite navigation, mobile phone integration and Siri voice control via Apple CarPlay are part of the package.

The Gen5 Micra will take on rivals such as the Volkswagen Polo, Skoda Fabia, Suzuki Baleno, and Ford Fiesta. The car will be manufactured in France, as a part of the Renault-Nissan alliance. There is still no word on the Indian arrival of the Micra.
