German auto giant Volkswagen has unveiled two new luxury models at the ongoing Auto Expo in Delhi. The models in question are the Passat GTE and the Tiguan. While the Passat GTE is a luxury plug-in hybrid model that previews the new regular Passat that will arrive soon here in India, the Tiguan is the much awaited crossover from Volkswagen.
Although it may look similar to the regular Passat range, the Passat GTE is quite clever and combines an efficient 156bhp, 1.4-litre TSI engine with an electric motor. This fusion of the two drive units generates a combined power output of 218bhp and allows a driving range of over 1,000km. In all-electric driving, it can cover over 50km.
The Tiguan, on the other hand, is Volkswagen’s entry into the highly competitive crossover segment. The brand has made it official that the
will be launched in this fiscal. Based on VW’s renowned MQB platform, the international-spec Tiguan features a 2-litre TSI engine, a 7-speed DSG gearbox and all-wheel drive.
