Tata Motors, the homegrown automaker, is aiming to launch a series of new cars in the country this year. The company will launch Kite hatchback and compact sedan, Safari Storme facelift and 2015 Nano. While the Kite twins are expected to go on sale in the second half, the Nano AMT is all set to hit the showrooms next month. The testing of the 2015 Nano has already begun in the country.

The new Nano will be powered by the same 624cc, MPFI, naturally-aspirated, twin-cylinder petrol unit that powers other variants of Nano. This engine churns out a maximum power output of 37bhp and a peak torque of 51Nm. This engine will be paired to a new 5-speed semi-automatic transmission (Automated Manual Transmission), which sends power to the rear wheels of the car. This is the same automated gearbox that is also available in the Zest. AMT transmission makes driving the Nano stress-free as it misses out on clutch pedal. The driver will have an option to change the gears either sequentially or fully automatically.

The top-of-the-line Nano will get subtle changes to both exteriors and interiors. It is equipped with new bumpers, fog lamps and revised headlamps. There will be new body graphics. The interiors will get better quality plastic and fit & finish will also improved from the current model. The feature list include electric power assisted steering, front power windows, newly designed instrument cluster, etc.

The new model is expected to be around Rs. 40,000 pricier than the regular model. It will be the cheapest automatic car in the country. The home-grown automaker is also working on another small car, codenamed the Pelican, which will be based on the Nano platform.
