Amid much hype and speculation, US-based car manufacturer, Ford, finally took off the curtains from next-generation Mustang. At various events, marking the celebration of 50th birthday of the series, the company showcased its swanky new car bearing a new design. The new Mustang was revealed at different events that were held in New York, Los Angeles, Shanghai, Sydney, Barcelona and Dearborn. The company also said that the car will be available across North America and Europe by next fall. Apart from it, Ford is also planning to go global with the new Mustang as it is aiming to introduce the car by 2015 in regions like Asia.

Describing more about the car, Chief Operating Officer of Ford, Mark Fields, said, “Mustang cuts to the heart and soul of our company and really represents our company at its best. It is a car, like our company, that has heritage.” The next-generation version of Mustang comes full circle on all safety related standards worldwide. The right hand drive version of the car will be specially made for markets like United Kingdom and Australia as Ford is now eyeing global markets.

As far as design of the new car is concerned, it still borrows plenty of cues from the old. The characteristic long hood and sloping fastback design are still present in Ford Mustang along with the trapezoid-shaped grille with logo. However, significant changes can be seen in the dimensions of the car as it gets a low ground clearance and wider body structure. The changes given in Ford Mustang GT can be seen in the signature rounded headlights, which are provided under a chiselled brow. For the rear end, Ford has given traditional three-bar tailamps that looks quite exquisite.

Talking about the features, Ford Mustang gets blind-spot detection and toggle switches to adjust the steering, stability control and other settings depending on the road conditions. Also to mention, the interiors are now packed with premium quality materials like brushed aluminium which replaces the painted plastic.

Ford is hoping for a turnaround in the pony car segment as Chevrolet Camaro has overtaken Ford Mustang in the recent past. During the last three years, Camaro has outsold the car of Ford while estimates for this year have already indicated the same. Reportedly, Ford Mustang will be offered in three engine options, namely, 300 bhp 3.7-litre V6, 5.0-litre V8 with 420 bhp and new 2.3-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder churning out 305 horsepower.
