The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the apex auto lobby, has declared that the venue of upcoming auto expo has been changed. Reportedly, the 2014 Auto Expo will be organised at Greater Noida, instead of its regular venue Pragati Maidan. SAIM has also rescheduled the dates of 2014 Auto Expo as the upcoming mega event will kick off from February 6 to12. The change in dates is made to avoid the clashing with Detroit Auto Show.

Expressing his views on the same, the Director General of SIAM, Vishnu Mathur said, “In the next Auto Expo, which will be held from 6-12 February, we will be showing only vehicles and accessories at the India Expo Centre and Mart in Greater Noida. Lot of global CEOs who wanted to be here have said to us that they could not because of their engagement with the Detroit Auto Show. So we decided to shift our Auto Expo to February.”

It must be noted that the change in venue is done because Pragati Maidan is not available during February on the mentioned dates. Therefore SIAM left with no option but to go for a new venue. Interestingly, since the inception of Auto Expo, Pragati Maidan hosts this event every two years in the first week of January.

On the other hand, the shift of venue has been a present surprise for several auto makers. Some of the company officials believe that Pragati Maidan lacks several adequate facilities, which does not go with the standards of international automotive shows. Owing to infrastructural issues, the complaints also stated mismanagement and lack of crowd control measures, which resulted to restriction of visitor’s entry at the 2012 Auto Expo. With the declaration of a new venue, a number of auto makers are expecting that the abovementioned issues will be resolved.
