Bajaj Auto has finally made it official; the launch date for the much awaited 2012 Kawasaki Ninja 650 R has been fixed on August 9th, 2012. The new bike is expected to come with a heavier price tag than its predecessor. It is expected that the new Kawasaki 650 R will demand a premium of around Rs. 50,000, which will take its price beyond Rs. 5 lacs (ex-showroom). According to reports, Kawasaki will be offering the new bike with an optional Anti-Lock Braking (ABS) feature. In case the feature is included in the new model, the price is expected to shot further by Rs. 30,000 considering the fact that the international model with ABS commands an additional USD 500 over the non-ABS model.

The 2012 Ninja 650 R will be powered by a 650 cc, parallel twin, 4-stroke powertrain, built to deliver 72 bhp of maximum power and 66 Nm of torque. It offers better handling and drivability, mainly owing to its new stiffer suspension. The bike has also been overhauled cosmetically to give it a relatively sharper look than the previous generation model. In the country, the model will be competing against the likes of Hyosung GT 650 R, the GT 650 N and the Ducati Monster 796 on the grounds of price. India Kawasaki Motor will be manufacturing the new bike at its plant in Chakan, by assembling Completely Knocked Down (CKD) kits brought from Thailand. The bike has been revered around the world for daily commuting due to its relaxed sitting position and gentle power output.

Meanwhile, the parent company has enthralled Japan by unveiling the 2013 Ninja 250 R, which looks quite like the ZX-10R. The new Ninja 250 R features revised angular bodywork, bigger slotted vents and a floating mounted windscreen. The rear wheel has undergone overhaul to receive new alloy 140mm tyres. The images revealed by the company show a toned tail and revamped exhaust.

Coming to the powertrain, the 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 250 R will now come with a new parallel twin DOHC unit replete with new crankcase and pistons. The company hinted that the low- and mid-range torque of the new bike have been enhanced, however, it refused to divulge any information on power and torque outputs. Another feature being included in the new bike is the digital fuel injection system. There is no confirmed news about its launch in India yet.
