The new 2013 model of the Skoda Octavia is expected to be launched in the domestic market, close to the festive season of Diwali. Test mules without any camouflage have been observed in certain parts of the country. Looking at the test vehicles, it seems that the Indian version will be more or less the same as the European version which is already on sale.

Skoda Octavia could easily be identified due to the unique front grille, headlights and the attractive front bumper design. As reported by Cartrade earlier, the 2013 version is longer than earlier editions. This also translates into a higher degree of interior space, provides acres of legroom at the back. Space provided is even comparable to more expensive sedans in the Indian market. As the roof line slopes down to meet the rear, boot space is also greater than earlier.

The 2013 Skoda Octavia has been constructed on the MQB platform from Volkswagen. Many components have been shared with the Audi A3 sedan, Seat Leon and Mk7 Volkswagen Golf. Design cues appear to be based on the company's Vision D concept. The new Octavia is expected to be available in four petrol and four diesel engines. Petrol versions would range from 1.2 TSI to 1.8 TSI and diesel ones from 1.6 TDI to 2.0 TDI. New cylinder deactivation technology allows these engines to provide a high fuel economy. In India, one engine each from the petrol and diesel powertrains would be available. In addition, variants may also get a 7-speed DSG, which is being used in the Volkswagen Polo 1.2 GT TSI.

This new vehicle is anticipated to replace the company's current D-segment sedan Laura. With this, the Octavia would compete against mighty rival such as Hyundai Elantra Fluidic, Toyota Corolla Altis, Renault Fluence, Volkswagen Jetta and Chevrolet Cruze. Skoda would also be revealing its new logo in India, along with a new design philosophy for its cars. It remains to be seen if the new vehicle can create the same success as done by the Laura.
