The U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has rated the 2013 Honda Fit EV to offer a combined fuel economy of 118 miles per gallon gasoline equivalent (MPGe), which the highest rating rendered to any electric car in the U.S auto market.
The Japanese automaker; Honda Motor Company had unveiled the production version of the subcompact hatchback, Honda Fit EV at the 2011 Los Angeles Show. The fact that makes this electric car very economical is its energy consumption, which is 28 kWh per 100 miles. The car maker has confirmed to employ the SCiB batteries manufactured by Toshiba, which is a lithium titanate battery capable of being recharged up to 80 percent in just 15 minutes and can be recharged around 4000 times, which is much higher than other lithium-ion batteries.
The high powered and efficient lithium titanate batteries provides the 2013 Honda Fit EV an impressive driving range of 82 miles (132 km) outrivaling Nissan Leaf, Mitsubishi i-MiEV and Ford Focus Electric both in terms of EPA efficiency ratings and the range offered.
As per the company, the 2013 Honda Fit EV has been designed to effectively combine the Honda’s distinct technology, their priority towards environment protection blended with fun and comfortable driving experience for the buyers.
Honda is planning to lease the Honda Fit EV at a monthly payment of $399 on the base price of $36,625 along with a federal tax credit of $7500. The launch for the U.S market will be initially restricted only to California and Oregon while plans are being chalked out for launch in other markets as well.
