Stop and go traffic in metropolitan cities can be a pain especially when you ride to work every day. Taking a head start after a green signal is something that every two wheeler rider dreams of! In an Indian Metropolitan, you don't pull the throttle to be cool, you do it so that you can beat the traffic following you.
The current lot of automatic scooters from Honda have a maximum engine capacity of 110 cc. The first from the Honda line to be powered by a 125 cc engine would be the Activa model. This automatic scooter is placed in straight line of competition with the likes of Suzuki Access, Mahindra Rodeo and TVS Jupiter, all from the 125 cc segment of automatic scooters. The recently introduced HET – Honda Efficient technology has been claimed to be succesful on Activa 110 and Activa-i. As per sources, the new 125 cc Activa may feature force air-cooled and single-pot engine, complimented with variator-controlled automatic transmission technology.
Official post from the Japanese autombile maker state, “If launched, Honda Activa 125 will be its biggest automatic scooter yet”. Talking more about the HET innovation, sources said, this technology uses low friction parts in the engine and has also used better air filters. This helps in reducing the overall engine friction, thereby delivering around 60 kmpl, as seen from the existing 110 cc Activa and Activa-i variant.
Honda has stood strong in the scooter segment for a while now, but with new bigger and powerful scooters from the rivals has pushed the Japanese automaker to cater to this 125cc segment. Among the long list of competitors, some of the most recent ones are Suzuki Swish and Piaggio Vespa. Moreover, sources have stated that Bajaj Auto shall launch its own fresh line of 125 cc scooters in India.
Cosmetic upgrades for the 125 cc Activa by Honda has not been revealed. Final statistics and reports maybe available post the unveiling at the 2014 Auto Expo event.
