First launched in 1972 as the W116 S-Class, the luxurious sedan served as the flagship model for the Mercedes-Benz for over 50 years. On January 8, 2014, the German luxury carmaker introduced the 2014 S-Class sedan in the Indian car market. The new model gets several upgrades and is equipped with a range of segment leading features and technology.

The petrol version of the sedan gets a 4.7-litre unit that returns about 5.5kmpl of mileage, while the oil burner is 3.0-litre unit that offers about 12kmpl of fuel efficiency.

The new W222 S-Class is equipped with latest technology and luxurious cabin. The new model is equipped with two 12-inches TFT display out of which, one is placed in the centre of the dashboard while the other is positioned behind the new multi-functional, twin-spoke wooden steering wheel. The feature list includes Mercedes' COMAN infotainment system with an inbuilt 250GB hard disk, audio, navigation and telephony. This chauffer driven car directly targets the business class buyers of the country. It is equipped with seven-coloured LED ambient light system, heated armrests, high quality Burmester music system, air balance package that filters the air in the cabin, hot stone massage system and WiFi hotspot for internet access.

The new S-Class looks sleeker and elegant than the previous model. Upfront is a new and larger radiator grille, restyled bumper and aggressive bonnet lines. The grille is flanked by Intelligent LED light system headlamps that adopt their illumination according to the road conditions, speeds and oncoming traffic. On sides, the vehicle gets dropping line that flows all the way to rear. At the rear, the sedan has new LED tail lights and two big tail pipes.

The S-Class sedan is available in both petrol and diesel fuel options. While the petrol unit is a 4.7-litre bi-turbo V8 petrol engine that produces a massive 460bhp of power and 700Nm of torque, the oil burner is a 3.0-litre diesel engine that is good for 255bhp of power and 620Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to rear wheels via a seven-speed 7G-Tronic automatic gearbox.
