Testdrive of Ritz in Kolkata

By Sourav Chakraborty on 16 June 2009

Even I also got the opportunity to test drive this latest offering from Maruti yesterday. The first thing that had struck my mind was that the car looks far better in flesh than in the pictures! It has definitely got an appealing & distinctive look,so those who were apprehensive about Ritz's 'rear'side looks & side-profile,please do have a look of the vehicle on road. Its looks classy. The off-the-league look,in my opinion ,will slowly grow on in our minds. The gear shift mechanism is extremely smooth, with an equally nice positioning of the gears, and overall handling of the vehicle was superb even at higher speeds. AC was good enough to cool the cabin (I drove the car in a hot& humid afternoon of Kolkata).Regarding the interiors,I felt that widthwise its bit lesser in size than Swift, but the higher ceiling and good legroom makes a good difference when compared to i10 or Swift.Leg Room is excellent.Although the beige interiors of i10 seem to be unbeatble even if Ritz's dual-tone interiors (blue & grey combination) are taken into account, but the much bigger room-space inside ,better shoulder room & leg-space,and more effective shock absorbers than i10,make you feel more comfortable in Ritz.well, having gone through lots of reviews earlier,I had high confusion regarding the Boot Space of Ritz. But,now having seen it in flesh,it can be said confidently that the Boot Space is well enough when compared to any car of this size. Its at par with almost all its in-class competitors (if not with some few models like i20),so thats not a big issue. One thing to be noticed here,in the coming days, are the intial ownership reviews about the mileage of this car,if it proves to be a descent one, this seems to be winner from Maruti stable.
All in all,a great offering from Maruti, and seems to be a very good buy!
