Lexus NX made its indian debut in late December 2017 with a price tag of Rs 53.18 lakhs. The NX is the smallest SUV in the Japanese carmaker’s line-up. In India, the NX300h takes the CBU route. It goes up against the likes of the BMW X3, Audi Q5 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC apart from the recently launched Volvo XC60 and the Land Rover Discovery Sport. The NX is available in India in two hybrid trims – 300h F Sport and 300h Luxury.

On the inside, the cabin is functional and quite understated compared to the larger NX. Lexus offers a full sized panoramic roof for ample light inside the cabin. Lexus claims that the NX300h offers extra spacious rear seats, 962mm to be precise. The SUV also offers rear seat switches that allows passengers to recline or fold their seats with just a touch of a button. In addition to a heads up display, the vehicle gets a 10.3-inch multi-information screen offers convenient access to numerous vehicle features such as the audio, climate and navigation systems. The hybrid system indicator displays real-time information about the hybrid system’s output and regeneration. The SUV also offers a wireless charging facility, dual zone climate control and eight-way power adjustable front seats with driver memory function.

The NX was introduced in 2014 and got a minor cosmetic update this year. The Baby Lexus carries the family tradition of large imposing fascia wearing the trademark Spindle Grille. The sleek LED headlights are similar to that on the larger NX, and there’s a boomerang-shaped LED strip beneath it. The bonnet has a striking resemblance to Lexus sports coupe, the RC F. There is a contrasting silver lip-spoiler nicely integrated beneath the bumper. The cladded wheel arches are massively flared. The NX measures at 4.6x1.8x1.6m with a wheelbase of 2.6m. The D-pillar is raked enough to lend the NX a sportier stance. The Japanese carmaker’s baby SUV sits on stylish 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels. The rear is stylish as well with high-placed LED tail lights and cladded rear bumpers. Lexus says that the crossover has an aerodynamic coefficient of 0.32. There are well-crafted bulges and creases all around the car.

Powering the NX SUV is the same hybrid motor that powers the ES sedan. The 2.5-litre straight four petrol motor mated to the electric motors have a combined output of 194bhp at 5,700rpm and 210Nm of torque at 4,200 – 4,400rpm. The power is sent to all four wheels via an electronic-CVT. The crossover is capable of doing a 0-100kmph in 9.1 seconds and to a top speed of 180kmph. Both the variants share the same engine and produce identical performance figures. The SUV offers five drive modes: Normal, Eco, Sport, Sport S+, and Custom. The vehicle also offers a stop/start system for saving fuel when waiting in traffic signals.
