Detailed Hyundai Grand i10 Review

What's Good?

Imagine a cocktail of Audi looks, Mercedes dashboard and BMW alloy wheels. Now imagine a very down to earth Hyundai price tag. Viola..... you have the Grand i10 diesel (Asta Version). It is a dream car to own and to drive. The ample torque of 160 Nm in my diesel variant has been one of the most endearing feature. It makes everyday driving in the city so very effortless because the engine pulls and pulls willingly right from standstill. Highway cruising at 100 km / hr is silent and effortless too. I have touched 130 till date before I ran out of road. The music system is a pleasure to use too. The sound is deep and has a good thump too. The seats are comfy even after 6 hours in the saddle. Brakes are reassuringly good. Ride achieves a good balance of road holding as well as comfort. Cornering is very flat with almost no body roll. Its fabulous economy is at least 50 % better than an equivalent petrol engine. All in all this car will bring Hyundai many new customers and they surely deserve to have this car selected by the motoring jury as : THE CAR OF THE YEAR 2014.

What can improve?

The stiffness of the roof sheet metal needs to be improved. It can be depressed with the fingers.

Overall Comments

The external lines resemble the latest creations from the German car manufacturer AUDI. I have had many people come up to me and say that they admire the looks of the vehicle and the way it sits.

The dashboard has taken cues from the two tone offered by Mercedes Benz. Instead of wood grain we have a lovely beige color which offsets the remaining grey and black plastic in a beautiful way. Very aesthetically done. Once inside, we find the cabin were welcoming.

Ride has been optimized for good road holding as well as comfort. The cornering is very flat with almost no body roll. This is very encouraging for spirited driving. Overall experience is a real eye opener and is certainly superior to any tall boy design.

Hyundai need to congratulated for finding that tiny gap between the cumbersome big sedan cars and the very narrow compact cars. It gives us just the right blend of space, with good dynamics without missing out on the economy factor. Overall I would say highly recommended and excellent value for your money. A big thumbs up.
