Upcoming Ford Kuga

Ford Kuga
July 2020 Expected Launch
9 - 16 Lakhs Expected Price

The fastest growing segment in the Indian car market is that of the compact SUVs and now almost every car maker has one in their line-up. After the Renault Duster set off the compact SUV storm, it was the Ford EcoSport which introduced the concept of a sub-four metre SUV. After the success of the top-of-the-line Ford Endeavour, Ford is looking to strengthen its SUV portfolio adding another feather to its cap, the Ford Kuga.

The Ford Kuga will be positioned above the Ford EcoSport and will be a Renault Duster and Hyundai Creta rival. It gets the signature Ford fascia with the prominent hexagonal chrome grille and swept back headlamps. The bumper gets a mesh air-dam with the fog lamps also getting mesh surrounds. The side profile is almost similar in form, but the length shows thanks to the chunky bonnet and the quarter glass pane after the C-pillar. The flared wheel arches give it muscle while the sloping roofline adds sportiness. The tail is also decked up with a short rear glass, a busy tailgate and a muscular bumper.

The dark interior looks premium and the kinetic design language is seen in the dashboard layout. The centre console gets a display screen for infotainment which is replete with phone connectivity and GPS navigation and also comes enabled with SYNC. The European car gets two-zone climate control along with push-button start and a 12V socket. The binnacle of the instrument cluster reads speed and revs and has a multi-information display that gives out all the necessary information.
As for the engines, the Kuga is offered internationally with a 2.0-litre diesel engine and a series of EcoBoost engines and also gets a four-wheel-drive option. In India though, it might get the 1.5-litre diesel engine that we have in the EcoSport but with a higher power output and mated to a manual gearbox. The 1.5-litre petrol with both the five-speed manual and the automatic gearbox might be available.

The Kuga is expected to be built in India and should be launched in the first half of 2017 and will compete with the Hyundai Creta, the Renault Duster and the Nissan Terrano amongst compact SUVs.
